Obituary of Anna R. Miosek
SIOUX CITY, IOWA Anna R. Miosek, 96 a long time former resident of Little Falls passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center, Sioux City, Iowa.
She was born on January 28, 1913 in Little Falls the daughter of the late Philip and Katherine (Hessler) Urich. She was educated in Little Falls Schools. Growing up, her summers were spent on her grandfathers farm outside of Little Falls in the Top Notch Road area, helping with chores and playing with the neighborhood children. As a teenager she worked in the local dress factories.
She was united in marriage to Jacob P. Miosek, Jr. on May 26, 1934, a union that lasted 68 years, until his passing in 2002.
Anna worked outside the home until her children were born and then became a devoted full time housewife and stay at home Mom giving her full attention to her family. She was always there for her children lovingly guiding and teaching them the social graces and helping them with their homework. As she cooked dinner, she would help the children practice spelling words as they sat at the kitchen table. She was an accomplished cook, managing to teach her children to eat the foods they disliked the most. Baking was her pride and she was known for her delicious Kuchen and orange rolls. Sewing, knitting and crocheting came naturally to her as she created many dresses, mittens, "half hats", and sweaters; all to match. She crocheted doilies, and tablecloths, some of which were passed down to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed music of all kinds and encouraged her children to enjoy music also. Anna and Jake and at least one of the children never missed a Little Falls Symphony concert.
Anna was a naturalist, enjoying going for rides into the Adirondacks and walking along forest paths, swimming at East Canada Creek, hot dog roast in Pawley Place, picnics at Wintergreen Park, and family get togethers at Moreland Park were all special to her.
In 1996 she and Jake moved to an apartment in Albany to be closer to her daughter Karen. They vacationed during the winters in Venice, Florida for several years.
In 2003, she moved to Florida to live with her daughter Sylvia. She easily adapted to the lifestyle of swimming at least once a day and enjoying the many birds and flowers in their yard. She would sit for hours in the sun, crocheting or reading a good book. Much to her dismay, Sylvia and Ivan retired to Iowa where she moved with them. She did, however, adapt to the change easily and enjoyed sitting in the back yard watching the birds, rabbits and squirrels that would scamper about the yard. It was a special treat for her to see a deer or fox passing by. She toured the Everglades and Florida Keys, Rocky Mountains, the Badlands, and the Black Hills where she was impressed by the Rushmore Monument. She also made several trips back to Little Falls for visits. Trips to South Dakota, Nebraska and Minnesota rounded out her travels. On a trip to her son Bobs when she was 95,he took her for a airplane ride in his Super Cub. They flew over the Rocky Mountains, and into Wyoming viewing the wildlife and scenery.
She was a devoted life long member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls and served on the Ladies Aid Society and Altar Guild.
Anna touched the lives of everyone she met. Care givers would stop by to visit with her throughout the day and frequently commented on her beautiful smile and ability to be gracious even in the most difficult times. Other residents would call out a "Hello, Ann" as she went through the dining room. Children she met all called her "Miss Ann". She taught some of them how to crochet and knit.
Left to treasure her memory are her children Bob (Darlene) Miosek, Berthoud, CO, Sylvia (Ivan) VanRoekel, Sioux City, IA and Karen (Ray) Schimmer, Berne, NY, grandchildren Robert (Margaret) Miosek, Loveland, CO, Stephanie (Ken) Bach, Arlington, TX, Melissa (Troy) Newkirk, Mound, MN and Kate Schimmer, Boston, MA, great grandchildren Alexandra Walsh, Meaghan Walsh, MacKenzie Walsh and great great granddaughter Evelyn Nicole Walsh-Hanson and several nieces and nephews.
