Obituary of Hazel T. Austin
DANUBE - Hazel T. Austin, 98 of 2923 State Route 5S, Little Falls passed away Monday, September 26, 2005 at Little Falls Hospital where she had been a patient since September 13, 2005.
She was born on November 12, 1906 in the Town of Stark the daughter of the late Fred and Emma (Swift) Travers. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School and Oneonta Normal School.
She was united in marriage to her husband of 36 years Robert J. Austin on May 29, 1954 at the First Baptist Church Parsonage, Little Falls. Mr. Austin predeceased her on March 28, 1990.
She was a member of the Newville Union Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also an over 60 year member of the Nowadaga Grange having served as treasurer for many years and was also a member of the Pomona, New York State and National Granges. A member of the Rock City Senior Citizens, Adirondack Senior Citizens and the Little Falls Chapter of the AARP.
Mrs. Austin began her teaching career in the Town of Danube Rural Schools and later for Little Falls Central School where she was active in the 4-H work. Following her marriage she and her husband Robert owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Danube until 1967, when they moved to their present home in Indian Castle.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Wesley Travers, who died in 1970.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2005 at 11:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Donald L. Dixon, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in the Garlock Cemetery, Town of Danube.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Friday, September 30, 2005 from 10-11am and to attend the funeral services to follow.
