Edmund M. Fortuna
LITTLE FALLS - Edmund M. Fortuna, 90 of 29 Churchill Street, Little Falls and formerly of 265 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls passed away Monday, April 11, 2004 at Little Falls Hospital.
He was born on October 30, 1913 in Little Falls the son of the late John and Aniela (Sosin) Fortuna. He was educated at Little Falls High School and has been a life long resident of Little Falls.
He was united in marriage to the former Jane L. Baum on June 27, 1969 at the Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls.
Mr. Fortuna was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. Entering the service on November 27, 1942 he served with Battery C Harbor Defense of Boston. He was honorably discharged on March 8, 1946 at Ft. Devans, Mass.
He was a active member of the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church, Little Falls were he served on various church and cemetery committees. He was a member of the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612, V.F.W., Little Falls as well as a member of the Little Falls Masonic Lodge# 181 F&AM and the Polish Community Home, Little Falls. He was also and avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Fortuna was employed for many years as the custodian for the Burrows Corp., Little Falls for their properties in Little Falls and especially the Burrell Building. He was also employed at onetime by the former H.P. Snyder Mfg. Co., Little Falls, the former Sperry - Rand Corp., Utica and the former Lundstrom Mfg. Co., Little Falls.
He is survived by his wife Jane, Little Falls, his son Richard J. Fortuna, Little Falls, a sister in law Waltie Fortuna, Little Falls, a niece Marian Klik, Brockport, a nephew Brian Fortuna and his wife Debbie, Sauquoit and 4 grand nieces and nephews Brianne and Andrew Fortuna and B.J. and Lindsay Klik. He was predeceased by his brother Ellush Fortuna, who died on May 29, 2001.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 16, 2004 at 10:00 am from the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church, 618 E. Gansevoort Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Walter Madej, New York Mills officiating. Interment will take place in the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Cemetery, Town of Herkimer where Full Military Honors will be accorded.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls on Thursday, April 15, 2004 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Friday morning.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Fortuna be considered to the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church, 618 E. Gansevoort Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
Members of the Little Falls Masonic Lodge # 181, F&AM will call in a body on Thursday evening at 6:15 pm to conduct their ritualistic services.
