Obituary of Frederick J. (Slim) Jones
Salisbury- Frederick J. (Slim) Jones, 83, of Military Road, Salisbury passed away at his home on Monday, November 20, 2006.
He was born on September 12, 1923, in Glenham, NY. The son of the late Willis and Mildred (Lee) Jones. He was educated in the Wappingers Falls schools.
He was united in marriage to his wife of 20 years, the former Margaret Russo, on August 16, 1986 in Marlboro, NY. with the Judge DiDonato officiating. Mrs. Jones predeceased him on June 27, 2006 after a long struggle to survive Alzheimer's.
Mr. Jones was a veteran of WWII serving Patton's 3rd Army, entering the service on January 14, 1943 in Albany. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1945 at Ft. Dix, NJ. He was expert rifleman and received the Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the European Middle Eastern Service Medal.
He was of the Catholic faith. He was also a member of the Beacon Elk's Lodge and the Fishkill Fire Department. He and his wife Maggie were very active with the Alzheimer Association and the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League where Maggie was a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame
Mr. Jones was employed as an Operating Engineer for the Local 137 in Hawthorn (Westchester) NY. He retired after 20 years of service on August 1986.
Mr. Jones is survived by his two daughters Elizabeth and Ann Marie Jones of Poughkeepsie, three grandchildren Erin, Joseph, Eve, a great grandchild Collin and his ex-wife and friend Anne Jones. He is predeceased by a brother Willis Jones and a infant sister Elizabeth Jones.
Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
