Edward Fredericks
NEWVILLE - Edward Fredericks, 77 of 682 Newville Road, Little Falls passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 3, 2003 at Little Falls after being stricken at home.
He was born on September 1, 1925 in the Town of Palatine the son of the late Edward J. and Mildred (Shults) Fredericks. He was educated in Fort Plain Rural Schools and Fort Plain High School.
Following the death of his mother Ed was taken care of by his sister Naomi after her death in 1933 at the age of 11, Ed who was 7 years old was placed in foster care. He was eventually place in the care of Harry and Ruth Veeder and raised in the Charleston Four Corners area where they raised him as one of their own. Ed has always held a special place in his heart for Mr. & Mrs. Veeder that continues to this day.
He was united in marriage to his wife of 40 years the former Ruth M. Johnson on October 2, 1948 in New Lebanon, NY. Mrs. Fredericks predeceased him on July 2, 1988.
Mr. Fredericks was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Navy. Entering the service on November 24, 1944. He was honorably discharged as the rank of SK3rd class on May 19, 1946 in Shoemaker, Calif.
He was a member of the Newville Union Church and served as trustee for over 40 years. As well as a charter member of the Canajoharie/Ft. Plain Elk's Lodge # 2621, B.P.O.E., the American Legion Post # 31, Little Falls, the Earl Stock Memorial Post # 3275, V.F.W., Ft. Plain, the former Nowadaga Grange, 1298, Newville, NYS Snowmobile Association and several area snowmobile clubs, Herkimer County Farm Bureau and the former Little Falls Co-Op. He also served as the Town of Danube Assessor for 15 years. In 2000 Ed Fredericks and Sons were awarded the Conservation Farmers of the year.
Mr. Fredericks was the owner and operator of the Gale Drive Farms, Newville. He was also the operator of Ed Fredericks and Sons Arctic Cat Snowmobile Dealership in Newville. He first became a snowmobile dealer in 1967 selling and servicing AMF-Ski Dadder, in 1970 he added Alouette, Rupp and Arctic Cat. In 1972 they became solely an Arctic Cat Dealership. He was also a NYS Dept. of Agriculture & Markets Licensed Milk Tester.
He is survived by his father and mother Harry and Ruth Veeder, Albany, 3 sons Donald E. Fredericks and his wife Dianne and their children Brian and Nicole Fredericks, Allen E. Fredericks and his wife Myra and their children Sarah, Katie, Christopher and Gregory Fredericks and Dale Fredericks and his wife Rebecca and their children Alyssa and Cole Fredericks, all of Little Falls, 2 daughters Vickie Dunn and her husband Charles and their children Erin and Kaitlin Dunn, Raleigh, NC and Gale Palmer and her husband Robert and their children Alex and Jillian, Ft. Plain, a brother Laverne "Oscar" Fredericks and his wife Ann, Connecticut, a sister Edna Morrill, Baldwinsville and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Naomi Fredericks, and 2 brothers Gerald and Earl Fredericks.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at 11:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. Interment will take place Ephratah Rural Cemetery, Ephratah were Military Honors will be accorded.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 from 2-4 & 6-9 pm and to attend the funeral services Wednesday morning.
