Obituary of Harold R. (Pete) Rockwell
SALISBURY- Harold R. (Pete) Rockwell, 73 of 136 North Road, Town of Salisbury passed away Monday, April 13, 2009 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford.
He was born on October 27, 1935 in the Town of Stratford the son of the late Richard W. and Mary (Bradley) Rockwell. He was a graduate of Stratford High School Class of 1953. He then received his Associates Degree in Biology from Jefferson County Community College.
He was united in marriage to his wife of 51 years the former Arlene Nellis on November 23, 1957 at St. Marks Lutheran Church, Johnstown, NY.
Mr. Rockwell was a veteran serving with the United States Marines, entering the service on January 21, 1954. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on January 20, 1957 in Brooklyn, NY
He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He also belonged to the Evans Mills and Wampsville Volunteer Fire Dept. for many years.
Mr. Rockwell was employed for 39 years with the United States Department of Agriculture in Syracuse, NY. He retired in 1992.
He is survived by his wife Arlene, 3 daughters Cheryl Carney and her husband Paul, Deerfield, Joy Kerznowski, Syracuse, Cynthia Alling and her husband Brian, Stratford, a son Richard R. Rockwell and his wife Carrie, Dolgeville, a brother Herbert Rockwell, Frankfort, 2 sisters Betty Moore and her husband Arnold, Jr., Salisbury, Joan Moore, Salisbury, 5 grandchildren Brandon Alling and his wife Alicia, Lauren and Mary Beth Carney, Leslie Dottolo, Jesse Alling, Gabrielle Elizabeth Rockwell, 3 great grandchildren Xavier, Nia, Trenton Alling and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Irene Barnes and a brother William Rockwell.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Round top Cemetery Town of Stratford.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 North Ann Street, Little Falls on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 from 5-8 pm and on Thursday, April 16, 2009 from 10am-Noon and graveside service to follow. The family of Mr. Rockwell would like to extend a welcome for fellowship and refreshment at the Stratford Town Community Hall following the graveside service.
