Obituary of Keith L. Cagwin
NEWVILLE - Keith L. Cagwin, 73, of 253 Creek Road, Little Falls (Newville), passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2008, at Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare, New Hartford with the support of his family at his bedside.
He was born on April 1, 1935 in Little Falls the son of the late Andrew and Evelyn (Hollister) Cagwin He was educated in Newville Rural and Little Falls Schools.
He was united in marriage to his wife of 51 years the former Diane Masi on April 21, 1957 at St. James Catholic Church, Fort Plain, NY.
Keith served in the US Army Reserve for 9 years.
He was a former member of the Little Falls Elks Lodge # 42 BPOE and the Herkimer County Highway Superintendent Association.
Keith served 18 dedicated years as the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Danube, retiring in 2001. Previously to being elected as Highway Superintendent he was employed as grounds man for the Little Falls School District, prior to that operated the Indian Castle Tire Service for 9 years and owned and operated his own construction company for years. He was also employed at one time by the Horender Construction Company, Little Falls. He began his career in the construction field working for Groves Construction Company in the building of the NYS Thruway.
Keith was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He enjoyed dancing on Friday and Saturday nights. He also enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He was a gourmet cook and loved to be surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife Diane, 3 sons, Dale and his wife Terri of Lancaster, PA, Jeffrey and his wife Teresa of Rochester, Todd and his wife Adel of Deerfield, 1 daughter Melissa Morris and her husband Nathan of East Herkimer and 1 sister Carole and her husband Pete, Newville.
7 grandchildren, Evan, Julie, Brenna, Katie, Serenity, Brady, & Jillian 2 step-grandchildren, Jessie & Peter as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Dean W. Cagwin on April 26, 2007.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 30, 2008 at 10:00 am at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, Rector to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Garlock Cemetery, Town of Danube.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Thursday morning.
