Obituary of Marta Helena Florian

LITTLE FALLS - Martha Helena Florian, 94 formerly of Top Notch Road, Little Falls and more recent of the Residential Healthcare Facility at Little Falls Hospital passed away Friday, December 29, 2006 at that residence. She was born on April 13, 1912 in Ostpreussen (East Prussia), Germany the daughter of the late Herman and Maria (Mix) Maruhn. She was educated in Germany. She was united in marriage to her husband of 58 years Paul O. Florian on March 12, 1931 in Germany. Mr. Florian predeceased her on September 21, 1989. Mrs. Florian faced great danger in Germany during World War II, bringing her 2 daughters and her mother to safety after being forced from their home. She came to this country in 1950 settling first in Fort Plain. In 1972 she moved to Little Falls where she has since resided. She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls and was a former member of the Fort Plain Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. She attended finishing school in Germany and was well known for her cooking, especially her German tortes. She was employed at onetime by the former Fort Plain Packing Co., retiring in 1972. A loving and devoted mother with a generous heart to her family and everyone that knew her she is survived by 2 daughters Rosemarie Kropf and her husband Frederick, Vero Beach, FL and Brigitte Wagner and her companion Richard Mussmacher, St. Johnsville, 3 grandchildren Cynthia Becker, Teaneck, NJ, Fred Becker, Cicero, NY and Mark Wagner, Little Falls, 2 great grandchildren Matthew and Brianna Becker, a special niece Elli Gunkel and her husband Karlheinz, E. Herkimer and many other nieces and nephews, also a sister in law Augusta Florian, Amsterdam, NY. She was predeceased by 2 brothers and 7 sisters in Germany. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street,, Little Falls with the Rev. James Paulson officiating. Interment will follow in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Florian be considered to the Christ Lutheran Church, 14 Petrie St., Little Falls , NY 13365 or to the Residential Healthcare Facility at Little Falls Hospital, 140 Burwell St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose. The family would like to thank the staff of the Residential Healthcare Facility for their care, compassion and dedication shown to Mrs. Florian and her family over the past several years.
