Obituary of Morton J. Tibbitts, Jr
LITTLE FALLS Morton J. Tibbitts, Jr. 89 of State Route 169, Little Falls passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Folts Home, Herkimer where he had been a resident since January 2012.
He was born on November 5, 1922 in the Town of Danube son of the late Morton B. and Ruth (Spoor) Tibbitts, Sr. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School Class of 1939.
He was united in marriage to his wife of 60 years the former Bettie Jane LeFever on May 19, 1945 at the home of the brides sister in Ilion. Mrs. Tibbitts predeceased him on March 4, 2005.
Mr. Tibbitts was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Navy. Entering the service on September 15, 1942. He was assigned to the Air Craft Carrier Support Squadrons and served as an Aviation Machinist Mate. Seeing action in several campaigns including the battle of Tarawa in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on November 9, 1945.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Little Falls having served at onetime as the church treasurer.
Mr. Tibbitts was employed for 41 years as a Process Engineer for the Remington Arms Co., Ilion retiring in 1980. Following his retirement he stayed on part time with the company as a consultant for several years.
He is survived by his son Roger C. Tibbitts, Little Falls, his daughter in law Sharon Tibbitts, Little Falls, his grandson Garth L. Tibbitts, Little Falls, his sister Esther Haughton (Charles), Inghams Mills and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Gary M. Tibbitts on July 29, 2003, his brother Donald Tibbitts on January 29, 2002 , his sister Jeanette Wilbur on March 5, 1998 and by his daughter in law Holly Tibbitts on December 19, 2004.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 12:00 pm from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Christopher Wintermute, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills where Military Honors will be accorded.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 10-12 pm and to attend the funeral services to follow.
