Obituary of Roger L. Dussault
LITTLE FALLS Roger L. Dussault, 87 of 6 Burwell St., Little Falls passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 20, 1922 in Little Falls the son of the late Kenneth G. and Alice B. (Barger) Dussault. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School class of 1940.
He was united in marriage to his wife of 65 years the former Jean Donovan on February 21, 1944 in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
Mr. Dussault was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army Air Corps. Entering the service on May 16, 1942 in Albany. He served as a pilot with the 532nd Bomb Squadron in the European Theater. On June 21, 1944 he was shot down over Germany and was held as a prisoner of war. For his service he was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant on October 11, 1945 at Ft. Dix, NJ.
A life long member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls he served at onetime as a Vestryman, Senior Worden, Treasurer and as a member of the church choir.
Mr. Dussault was a life member of the Little Falls Masonic Lodge # 181 F&AM and later the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge # 796 F&AM. He was a past Master of the Little Falls Masonic Lodge and Past District Deputy Grand Master of the Herkimer Masonic District as well as a member of the York and Scottish Rites, the Asterogen Chapter # 161 Royal Arch Masons and the Ziyara Temple of the Shrine, AAONMS, Utica. He was also a life member and Past Commander of both the Little Falls American Legion Post # 31 and the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612, VFW, Little Falls and served as president of the former Little Falls Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Dussault along with other members of the Dussault family owned and operated the former Journal & Courier Printing Co., Little Falls for many years until his retirement in 1986. From 1950 1964 he served as the Herkimer County Clerk and at onetime was a candidate for the NYS Assembly. He was also active in the local Boy Scout troops.
He is survived by his wife Jean, his 3 sons David Dussault and his wife Mary Jo, Livonia, NY, Jerry Dussault and his wife Heather, Barneveld and Jeffrey Dussault and his wife Kathleen, Herndon, VA, his daughter Caryl Buehler and her husband Robert, Shamokin Dam, PA, 8 grandchildren Christopher and Kimberley Buehler, Michael, Shawn, Matthew, Jacquelyn, Jennifer and Gregory Dussault, 4 great grandchildren Denver Buehler, Dylan Dussault, Hannah Grace Hickman and Will Hickman. He was predeceased by 2 brothers Kenneth G. Dussault in 1993 and Thomas W. Dussault in 2000 and by a sister Natalie Grau in 1993.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 10:00 am from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 588 Albany St.., Little Falls with the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, Rector officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills in the spring.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls on Friday, January 1, 2010 from 4-6 pm and to attend the funeral services Saturday morning.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Dussault be considered to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 588 Albany St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
