Obituary of Edelgard (Edie) Sager
LITTLE FALLS - Edelgard (Edie) Sager, 82 of 59 Furnace Street, Little Falls passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at Little Falls Hospital where she had been a patient since November 20, 2002.
She was born on February 7, 1920 in Essen, Germany the daughter of the late John and Marte (Konopka) Tetz. She came to this country in April of 1926 aboard the ship Christopher Columbus and settled in Little Falls / Middleville area. She was educated in Middleville Schools.
She was united in marriage to her husband of 56 years William Sager on August 24, 1946 at Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls by the Rev. J. F. K. Riebesill.
She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls. She was also a member of the Little Falls German Maennerchor and the International Association of Machinist Local # 1510, Little Falls.
She worked for many years on the family dairy farm in Middleville. She was later employed at the National Automotive Fibers, Little Falls and for 23 years as an inspector for the former H.P. Snyder Mfg., Co., Little Falls. She was last employed in that same capacity for the Beech - Nut Foods Corp., Canajoharie retiring in 1978. Once retired Edie had more time to enjoy her hobbies such as crocheting, gardening and traveling. Besides traveling often to Venezuela from 1970 to 1981, she traveled to Colorado and Germany, visiting family and reuniting with relatives.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her husband William, her son Richard W. Sager and his wife Karen, Amherst, NY formerly of Herkimer, her daughter Linda M. Wagner and her husband Dale F., Little Falls, her sister Elsie Chomiak, Herkimer, 4 grandchildren Melinda Justiniano Zebrowski, Albany, Hugo W. Justiniano, Raleigh, NC, William M. Sager, Rochester and Michelle Sager Heckler, Newport News, VA, a great granddaughter Abigail Grace Heckler, a niece Joanne Mencer, Herkimer and her beloved grand dog Louie. She was predeceased by a niece Caroline Rasbach Hessler.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 29, 2002 at 7:00 pm from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Vicar James Paulson, of Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Church Street Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Friday, November 29, 2002 from 5-7 pm and to attend the funeral services to follow.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Sager be considered to the Christ Lutheran Church, 14 Petrie Street, Little Falls. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
