Obituary of Agnes M Scanlon
FORT MYERS, FL – Agnes M. Scanlon, 96, formerly of Saltsman Road, Little Falls, NY and for many years of Fort Myers, FL passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers with her loving family at her side.
She was born on May 2, 1921 in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Albert and Margaret (Healy) Ladeau. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, Little Falls class of 1938. Agnes then graduated from St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing, class of 1942.
A veteran of World War II, Agnes served with the US Army Nurse Corps, entering the service on July 10, 1943 assigned to the 11th Evacuation Hospital in the European Theater, including England, France and Germany. She was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant on December 27, 1945.
On August 12, 1950, she was united in marriage to her husband of 51 years, Paul M. Scanlon at St. Mary’s Church, Little Falls. Mr. Scanlon predeceased her on May 22, 2002.
Mrs. Scanlon was a member of the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612 VFW, Little Falls, the American Legion Post# 31, Little Falls, and the former Little Falls MOOSE Lodge # 615.
Following her service to our country, Mrs. Scanlon was employed for several years as a Registered Nurse at Little Falls Hospital and for many years in the office of Dr. Raymond Wytrwal, MD, in St. Johnsville. She worked for the Herkimer County Department of Social Services in Herkimer for twenty years, retiring in 1986.
She is survived by her sons: Robert P. Scanlon and his wife Karen, Salisbury Center, NY and John A. Scanlon and his wife Connie, St. Johnsville, NY, her daughters, Mary A. Scanlon and her husband Daniel Ruzbasan, Ft. Myers, FL, Elizabeth A. Scanlon, Ft. Myers, FL, Joan Dise and her husband Henry, Little Falls, NY, Jean Ronan and her husband Thomas, Little Falls, NY, her grandchildren: Katie Scanlon and friend Bobby Shaver, East Herkimer, NY, Chelsea Liddle and her husband Seth, Cobleskill, NY, Chantel Scanlon, St. Johnsville, Chloe Scanlon, St. Johnsville, Julie Parris and her husband Ben, Atlanta, GA, Justin Dise and wife Suzanne, Little Falls, NY, her great-grandchild Hannah Dise, Little Falls, NY, her sister, Anne Hoteling, Little Falls and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, William Ladeau in 1961 and Albert Ladeau in 1998, her sister Mary Ward in 1991 and her grandson, Tyler R. Scanlon on June 6, 2009.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. Main & John St.’s, Little Falls, NY where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terence Healy. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer where Military Honors will be accorded.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 5-7 pm and attend the funeral services on Friday morning.
