Obituary of Michael P. Petrie
LITTLE FALLS - Inv. Michael P. Petrie, NY State Police, 45 of Lower Paradise Road, Little Falls (Town of Danube) passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Little Falls Hospital surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. The last days of his life were a testament to the person that Mike was, as the hospital halls and room were consistently filled with people coming to pay their respects and honor is his final days. When Mike finally lost his battle, he certainly knew how many lives he touched.
He was born on September 25, 1972 in Little Falls, NY the son of Joyce A. (Vickery) Petrie and the late David W. Petrie, Sr. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School Class of 1990 as well as a graduate of Herkimer County Community College.
On December 16, 2017 he was united in marriage the love of his life the former Elizabeth McKeon at their home on Lower Paradise Road after spending more than five loving years building their life and home together. They were lucky enough to have a magical day put together by their loving families.
Mike began his law enforcement career as a Patrolman for the City of Little Falls and Village of Dolgeville Police Departments. Mike entered the New York State Police on September 9, 2002 as a member of the 187th Session. Mike graduated from the New York State Police Academy in March of 2003 and was sent to Troop D, Zone 1, SP Marcy for his Field Training. Upon completion of this training he was transferred to Zone 3 at SP Alexandria Bay. In 2004, Mike was again transferred to Z-1, and stationed at SP Herkimer until his appointment to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation as an Investigator on June 16, 2016 and transferred once again to SP Marcy. On August 25, 2016 Mike attained the permanent rank of Sergeant and remained in his current assignment in the BCI. During his time as a Trooper, Mike also served as a Crime Scene Technician and was a valued member of the Collision Reconstruction Unit.
Mike in his earlier years was employed as a mechanic for the former Skinner Ford, Herkimer a skill he continued to put to use helping out friends and family. He was also employed by Floor & Furniture Restoration with his friend Mark Mornelli, Little Falls.
An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed spending time working on his land, repairing old tractors especially John Deere’s, restoring antique snowmobiles and was a member of the Shumaker Mt. Hill Climbers Snowmobile Club. His favorite pastime was taking a ride on his four-wheeler “up over the hill” with a dog or two chasing behind him. Mike was an infinitely kind and generous man and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his wife, family and his many friends especially during the family cider parties.
He is survived by his mother Joyce Petrie, Little Falls, his wife Elizabeth, his brothers, David W. Petrie, Jr., Mechanicsville, NY, Richard Petrie and his wife Melissa, Little Falls and Ronald Petrie and his wife Lisa, Little Falls, his sisters, Elaine Lippert and her husband Donald, Little Falls, Karen Filipski and her husband James, Little Falls, Julie King and her husband Nathan, Baldwinsville and Laura Hargrave and her husband Jon, Dolgeville, his mother-in-law, Anne McKeon, Little Falls, and two sisters-in-laws and their fiancés, Tiffany Lawrence and Brandon Rickard, Little Falls and Holly Lawrence and Nick Salamone, Herkimer, several nieces and nephews with whom he individually shared special connections with and his two dogs, Hattie and Oscar. He was predeceased by his father David W. Petrie, Sr. on March 24, 1994.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Little Falls hospital for the exceptional care and endless compassion Mike received while he was there.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 10:00 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. of Main & John St.’s, Little Falls, NY with the Rev. Rafel Dadello, Pastor of the Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in the Garlock Cemetery, Town of Danube in the spring.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Holy Family Parish Church on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 3-8 pm and to attend the funeral services on Tuesday morning.
