Dear Aunt Irene, I will always remember you fondly as a very kind and classy lady who spent a lifetime doing good work and good deeds for others. I am joyful that you are free to be with God, and the many others who loved you in this life. I am sure that God has welcomed you with a smile and with another job for you to do on His behalf! Love you, Denise

One of the most memorable people I think I will ever know. Irene was a pillar of the Herkimer Reformed Church, especially the Kitchen Crew. The hours she put into the Shepherd's Table, the warmth with which she greeted each guest, the cleaning secrets she knew, her voice lifted to praise God in the choir, her service on church boards and in the infamous "Kitchen Band". The fun all the ladies had with her and Marge Anderson on the annual "Mystery Ride"; her generous contributions to the church; her hospitality to one and all--when I was going back and forth to PA, caring for my Father, she had a lovely dinner party for me with church friends, and she regularly sent thoughtful cards to my Father: my sister and I will always hold her in high esteem for this alone.
The PEP Relay for Life team that the Helmer family organized and supported for so, so many years, making hundreds of pies to sell by the slice or whole to add to their individual fundraising for cancer, having lost three siblings to the disease. I'm sure she was the best of teachers, as she was the best of Christ's servants. We who mourn her death, have been enriched from knowing her and will be better in years to come as our best tribute to her. Prayers and sympathy to every one of her many relatives.

I was so sad to hear of Irene's passing. She was my very special "cousin-in-law". From the time I was a small child, I loved visiting her at her home on Alexander Street in Little Falls. I remember being amazed at her energy, as she ran up and down the steep stairs! As an adult, I loved sharing travel tales with her. The last time I saw her was in 2016 and I have such fond memories of sitting in her lovely home in Herkimer, eating her delicious cookies, and chatting some more! She was kind and loving and her huge smile could light up a room. A sweet soul who brought joy to so many people. Heartfelt condolences to her family; may she rest in peace.
