Obituary of Gregory O'Keefe

Dr. Gregory O'Keefe III, 74, of Ritter Road, Little Falls, NY passed away May 14, 2021 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, NY., with his loving wife at his side. He was born on December 13, 1946 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Gregory O'Keefe Jr. and Priscilla Lewis O'Keefe. Greg graduated in 1964 from Phillips Andover Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and Princeton University class of 1968. He attended Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Dartmouth Medical School, completing his residency in Internal Medicine in 1973. While at Dartmouth, he met and married Nancy Degnan and they were together 47 years. He began his career with the National Health Service Corp, serving on Vinalhaven Island, Maine. He remained on the island for the next 20 years providing medical care as the island's only doctor. In 1995, he moved with his family to New York State where he served as Director of Public Health for Herkimer County. He was currently employed by TeamHealth as a medical provider and Medical Director for Cooperstown Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. He also held positions at many local area healthcare facilities. Greg loved hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, gardening and boating. During his lifetime, he also enjoyed the love and company of six beautiful Labrador Retrievers. Greg is survived by Nancy and their son, Matthew.
