Obituary of Florence Kahler
Florence E. Kahler, 85, of San Benito, TX passed away in Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX on April 24, 2022.
Florence was born on December 11, 1936, in Martinsburg, NY, to Clifford D. Ingersoll and Maude Hamilton Ingersoll. The family moved to Michigan where she grew up.
Her siblings Stanley Ingersoll, Clifford Ingersoll, Carl Ingersoll, Edward Ingersoll, Shirley Ingersoll predeceased her. Her sister, Ruth Ingersoll Williams, still resides in Michigan and her brother, Frederick Gilbert, resides in Indiana.
Florence married her first husband, Robert L. Barnett in Owatonna, MT where their first child was born. They moved to NYS where the other 4 children were born & raised.
She married Edwin E. Kahler, in Little Falls, NY on April 24, 1976. He predeceased her on December 14, 1986.
Florence’s children who predeceased her are Patrick A. Barnett and Roberta J. Barnett Mansell. Her surviving children are Ernest E. Barnett (Faith), Cindy M. Barnett Near and Carl E. Barnett (Cherilyn). She has 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 4 step- sons, Edwin R. Kahler, Jeffrey A. Kahler, James E. Kahler & Donald F. Kahler, as well as her very special Polish family, Tomek & Agnieszka Gozdalski & their children, Ian, Anthony & Christina.
Florence went to Herkimer County Community College and obtained her Associates Degree in Business. She worked for the Daniel Green Company for 32 years until the company folded. She sold her home in Dolgeville and moved to South Texas to take care of her parents.
She was VP & Co-Founder of the local AARP Chapter & the Secretary of the Polish/American Club in her Texas Community. Her volunteer work includes Cub Scout Den Mother, Safe-Driving Instructor, Nursery School Teacher, Tax Aide, Literacy Volunteer, Certified ESL Teacher, Foreign Exchange Student Director, Dolgeville Rotary Club. She was also a “host mother” for several exchange students.
She was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Harlingen, TX
A Memorial Service & Internment of her ashes will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022, at 2:00PM in Forest Hills Cemetery, Utica, NY
