I am so deeply saddened by the passing of Gregory Santry. I was looking for him on facebook just to say hello and his obituary came up. I worked with Greg at Merrill Lynch in the 1980's. I moved to Colorado for a year and returned to Cape Cod. We were able to visit with each other when he visited the cape where I met his wife Anne. He was one of a kind. The words in his obituary are spot on. We listened to a lot of Frank Sinatra and watched many episodes of The Rifleman together. Great memories of this man. I truly enjoyed our friendship. God Bless. My thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family. Warren Bedford.

The first thing that arises when I think of Greg Santry is:
Tenaciousness – When performing a task, Greg would not stop until he was satisfied with his performance on the task. He would work in rain – cold – windy weather, outside or in, to help another person that he knew was in trouble or needed help.
Integrity of Character – The truth was extremely important to him. If he promised something, he would succeed in doing it at all costs. Late at night – if he had to drive to Boston, Buffalo or NY City he would, and still get up early and go to work. I always believed anything he said and did and knew that it was good – honest and wholesome.
Strength of Character – When Greg was present, he was salient; his personality was vivid and vibrant, even effervescent to say the least.
Loyalty is the last I’ll mention, not that there aren’t more redeeming characteristics that can be associated with Greg, but this was primary to his life.
To his wife, family and friends he was available and would help in any time – space or difficulty.
I trusted him – always; I have known him for 47 years and knew that he was unequivocally loyal and honest.
I’ve accumulated many stories, all factual, about Greg but I realize that they may not be useful in the present context. I will however explicate one in order to illuminate some of these previous points:
There was a small gathering, at a place that will remain unmentioned. We were approximately 16 years old—47 years ago. At the time, Greg had a motorcycle and two friends asked to take it for a “spin.” Generous as he was, Greg let them take the ride on his bike (motorcycle). The hours past and he became concerned but finally these “friends” came back without the motorcycle and had an unusual and flimsy story as to where it was and what happened.
The bike was impounded by the police – they chased these two individuals through the streets of Little Falls, who had escaped into the woods.
Instead of revealing to the police and his father what had occurred, he took full responsibility for the event and dealt with the consequences. His father was the City Attorney and Greg was in Big Trouble but he never revealed what had actually happened. That’s loyalty!
Our lives are like: Changing rivers of phenomena, always growing, flowing, but impermanent and ephemeral. WVM
It is impossible to “write” someone’s life on paper…

Greg was my cousin. He was extremely devoted to his parents and our Grandparents while growing up. He lovingly teased his sister Maryellen while we all played together. Then the wedding to his bride Anne proved how much he was capable to love fully. I am deeply saddened and praying for all who loved him especially his beautiful bride Anne. Rest in peace cuz.

Q: How did you meet Gregory?
A: Greg extended a great kindness to me in a time of need. He offered a beautiful place to rent for a time. It was so helpful, more than he probably knew. (From what I saw and heard, Greg extended respect and kindness to all). I have been grateful for this consideration ever since. My sincere condolences to Anne and to Greg's sister and to all who loved him.

I met Greg off and on during our amateur radio Field Day weekends. He and Anne came up to visit us. I enjoyed chatting with him and we played with their dog in the field. He was such a nice man. I will miss him and our chats.

Greg Santry was an ethical, honest, and generous friend who would never let you down. His love of and service to community were outstanding. Without his inspired leadership when he was an alderman, the Little Falls municipal pool would not have been renovated and reopened in 2009. Remember Greg when you see kids headed for the city pool on a 90 degree summer day.

Dear Anne,
I just heard the news and I am so very sorry for your loss. I have many memories with Greg growing up and over the years. I loved his laugh, he always had great stories to tell. The family picture I attached is: Grandma and Grandpa, Joe and Bev of course, my sisters; Donna, myself and Beth. Please know you and your family are in my prayers. Rest in Peace Greg, your cousin Gretchen

Q: What was Gregory like as a child?
A: As Mary Ellen's BFF, I was at the house a lot while Greg was growing up. Our mothers were also BFF's, and so our families frequently were together. Greg loved to tease his younger sister and me too, so that combined with Joe's fabulous sense of humor and Bev's wonderful dramatic voice, meant that there was always a lot of commotion in the Santry household! One time, we all went to Killington to ski, and Greg brought Bob Hingry. One of them had wet socks, and they happened to be a dark color. Well, after a long day of skiing, the wet socks made a mark on the wall while the four of us were playing some board game. Can't remember if it was Greg's socks or Bob's! But we did have fun skiing. And Greg got to drive the family station wagon all the way there through a huge snowstorm.

Greg was a kind soul. We met when he rented the apartment to me and my son. He quickly became a friend and not a landlord. Always asking how we were doing. I remember fondly the year he had a bunch of neighbors Christmas caroling. He became like family to my parents who also rented from Greg. Greg and Anne are good people. You are in my prayers Anne.
