Obituary of Esther Averell
End of an Era
It is with the deepest love, respect, admiration and sadness we announce the passing of Esther E Averell.
She fought cancer valiantly, always with a positive attitude and determination. Esther passed away, at home, on Sunday, October 1, 2023, surrounded by her family and a multitude of friends.
Though short, her life was very full, Esther was a force in this world, an adventurer, a daredevil, a true friend and a devoted wife with a pure and honest heart, full of love for her wife, Darlene, her family and her friends. Always quick with a witty retort, a sly smile and contagious laugh to light up the world, she will be missed beyond measure.
Esther was born May 30,1973 in Cooperstown, NY, to David and Margaret (Mitchell) Averell, she was their only daughter and the youngest of 7. She graduated from Little Falls H.S. Class of 1991 and worked for the past 20 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
Esther met the love of her life, Darlene, while working at Bassett and after a whirlwind romance they were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony. It rained that day but no one recalls that because of all the sunshine and glow coming from the beautiful ceremony and the laughter that always accompanied them.
Esther was predeceased by a brother, Paul and her dad, David.
She is survived by her wife of 10 years Darlene, their children Casandra and Antonio, brothers Donald(Michelle), Peter(Tanya), David(MaryJo), Dean(Christel), Derek(Amy). Nieces and nephews - Amy, Nathon, Brian, Lea, Troy, Tre’, Ethan, Logan, Nate and many, many beloved cousins and extended family.
There are so many friends through the years that we all consider family, her high school friends, Jen, Vicki, Tina and Lisa. Her crew Missy, Brian and Mary. Lifelong family friends, Kathy and Bernie, along with an innumerable amount of people who are among the fortunate to have experienced life with Esther.
A truly heartfelt thanks to the entire oncology department at Bassett Medical Center for the care and compassion that all of you showed Esther during her fight. CANCER SUCKS!
