Obituary of Treva Stephenson Peavey
Treva Joan Stephenson Peavey, age 83, died on Sunday, May 19, 2024, after several years with Alzheimer's, a disease which never took away her smile, her irresistible laugh, her love of music and books, and her love of her family.
Treva was born on June 27, 1940, and grew up in Sauquoit, NY. She graduated from Sauquoit Valley High School in 1958, attended Oneonta College for two years, and worked at Partlow Corporation in New Hartford before marrying Lewis William Peavey on July 15, 1961.
The couple farmed in Orange County for three years, where their first daughter Jill was born. In 1964, Treva and Lewis moved to a farm in Fairfield. Second daughter Kay was born in 1966 in Little Falls, and third daughter Kim followed in 1967.
Treva managed the household; kept books for and worked on the farm; and volunteered many hours at the local grade school, the Red Cross, and local libraries. She owned and operated a fabric shop in Newport, NY. Her favorite work might well have been as librarian in Middleville, where she could organize everything, keep it in order, and be surrounded all day by books and people, both of which she loved.
Treva took courses at Herkimer County Community College and completed her bachelor's degree through Empire State College in 1993. Treva and her three daughters were in college at the same time. But no matter how busy she was, Treva always found time to bake cookies, which won the hearts of everyone she knew.
Treva is survived by daughters Jill, Kay, and Kim; sons-in-law Mark Sansouci, Joe Maloney, and Frank Hunter; grandchildren Emma and Nora Sansouci, Andrew and Grace Maloney, and Gwen Peavey Hunter; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, two sisters, and one brother.
The family would like to thank the Blue Unit at Daughters of Sarah for their wonderful care of Treva.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, June 1, from 10:30 to 11:30, at St Paul’s Church (565 Albany Street, Little Falls). A memorial service will begin at 11:30 in the same location, followed by lunch. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, Daughters of Sarah Skilled Nursing Center (in Albany), or the charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangments are under the direction of Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY 13365
