Obituary of Donald A. Reed

Mr. Donald A. Reed, 94, of North George Street, Rome, NY, died on June 27th, 2023 at the Bethany Gardens, Rome, NY. 

Mr. Reed was born in Little Falls, NY on January 16, 1929, the son of the late Henry and Nellie Wedderspoon Reed.

He graduated from Little Falls High School, Class of 1946, and took college courses later on in his life to further his education. 

For many years he worked as a civilian employee of the US Goverment at the Griffiss  Airforce Base as an Electrial Engineer. 

From 1947-1951 he served in the US Navy, with the rank of Tech 2nd Class.

He was of Christian faith, was the last original member of the Krickside Fish and Game Club, as well as a lifetime member of the Elks of Rome, and a lifetime member of the American Legion of Rome. 

On October 29, 1977 at their home in Rome, NY he married Ruth Dunn Benishin.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn R. Reed and second wife of 46 years Ruth on February 6, 2023, brother Henry Reed, sisters Jean Cashmer, and  Ann Sholtes her husband, and her two sons David and Edward, as well sd  his niece Sharon Richards. 

Survivors include his daughter; Sandra and her husband Wayne Holliday; two sons; Rick Reed, and Gerry Reed; sister Margery Richards; Grandson Christopher and Virginia Holliday; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is also survived by his wife Ruth's children, Greg Benishin, Elena Lax, Nicky Benishuin and Tami Lindsay, and their families. 

Arrangements are entrusted to Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, 42 N Ann Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. 

The family will be holding a memorial service on Thursday July 13th at 11:00am  at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort Street, Street, Little falls, NY 13365, with Rev. Joseph A. Famulare, Jr. officiating.
